Partially its down to a person's "natural ability", but as with most areas genetics only make up a relatively small part of the picture, and tends to have the most influence right at the very top levels of most sports.

Most of our performance (or lack of it) resides in our subconscious mind, and in the background it influences the way we train as well as the way we compete.
